Dave and Linda Smith 2018 Distinguished Alumni

Adam Shahan

You would be challenged to find alumni more proud and passionate about their alma mater than Dave and Linda Smith. As a 1968, Eagle basketball player, Dave focused his time as a student toward winning. He led his teammates to victory on the court and kept their bond strong throughout the decades. As Dave and Linda received the Distinguished Alumni award at the homecoming banquet, Coaches and teammates from the 1968 team left their seats to surround the couple with love and support.

As a coach, Smith saw the need to recognize achievement on and off the court.

Though an Eagle’s basketball fan, Linda placed a high value on her education and invested time in her studies. The couple applied Dave’s determination with Linda’s head for business to run a side company along with their jobs; Midwest Trophy Manufacturing. Dave often delivered trophies on his drive to his high school coaching job, and Linda dropped off orders on her way to the Federal Aviation Administration where she worked at the time. Later, Linda managed the first storefront with children Dave, Jr. (00) and Ashli (00) underfoot. The entrepreneurs grew the business into the nation’s leading manufacturer of awards, now known as MTM Recognition.

The Smith’s found success even in their avocations. Dave became a winning professional fisherman and an accomplished golfer. Linda enjoyed bass fishing with Dave and has valued serving in the Oklahoma Christian Women’s Association, Edmond Mobile Meals Programs, and many other ministries. Dave and Linda were active members of the Del City Church of Christ for over 34 years before moving to Edmond where they serve in multiple roles at Memorial Road Church of Christ. The couple are proud of their grandchildren Colin, Leah, Morgan, Alyson, and Ellis, all good basketball players and potentially, a third generation of Eagles!
