Professional Painter for Physical Plant

Oklahoma Christian University is seeking applicants for the position of Painter for the Physical Plant.  This position will report to the Physical Plant Building Maintenance Manager.  Applications will be accepted until the position is removed from the University’s job posting, which may occur any time on or after the Open Date for Hire.

Responsibilities will include:

Applying preparatory materials, paints, and stains to surfaces of walls, ceilings, equipment, and furniture. Preparing and applying appropriate materials to signage and irregular surfaces such as parking lots, streets, and athletic play areas. Working conditions include restricted movement; air contamination, dirty environment, hazardous materials, lifting or carrying heavy objects.

Applying protective and decorative coats of paint, varnish, lacquer, and/or other related materials to interior and exterior surfaces of buildings, furniture, equipment, and other structures.

 Washing, scraping, sanding, and smoothing of interior and exterior surfaces prior to painting, varnishing and/or lacquering.

  Cleaning equipment, paint mixing area, and work area.

  Operating compressors, striping machines, sandblasters, spray equipment, and other small power equipment.

  Installing, repairing, and maintaining drywall, wall texturing, and ceiling acoustic texturing.

  Operating heavy lift equipment including scissors lifts, and boom swing stage lifts.

  Erecting various types of scaffolding, staging, ladders and planks to reach surfaces of work area for Painters and others.

  Applying paints, stains, surface preparatory materials, and undercoating materials to a variety of surfaces, as appropriate, and according to Materials Safety Data Sheets ensuring compliance with hazardous materials guidelines.

  Maintaining of existing paint surfaces through matching and tinting of appropriate paint products.


Adheres to safe handling and appropriate disposal of paints, stains, preparatory and undercoating materials, and other hazardous materials

 Has knowledge of the tools, equipment, materials, and application techniques common to the painting trade.

  Has knowledge and skill in hazardous materials handling, application, and disposal.


Minimum Qualifications:

Six years of painting experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. 

High School Diploma.
