WINNIPEG, Manitoba (July 5, 2013) – For the second time in three weeks, Oklahoma Christian signee Dana Todd has won a prestigious amateur tournament in her native province.
On Friday, Todd completed a wire-to-wire win in the Manitoba Women’s Junior Championship, as her final-round 81 at Elmhurst Golf and Country Club was good enough to beat Veronica Vetesnik by two shots.
Last month, Todd won the Manitoba Optimist Junior Open, a win that qualified her for the Optimist International Junior Golf Championship, set for July 30-Aug. 4 at the PGA National Resort and Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. Because of that obligation, Todd surrendered the automatic berth she earned Friday to the Canadian Junior Girls Championship, which will be played during the same time frame.
This week’s tournament began with round at Selkirk Golf and Country Club in Selkirk. Todd – the 2012 runner-up in the event – shot a 3-over-par 74 to take a four-shot lead.
The tournament moved to the 5,700-yard layout at Elmhurst for the final two rounds. Todd recorded three birdies during a 4-over 77 on Thursday, which gave her a five-shot lead over Vetesnik entering Friday’s final round. Todd struggled a bit on the front nine but still held off Vetesnik, who shot a 78.
