EDMOND, Okla. (Nov. 18, 2013) – Two Edmond high school golfers each have signed a letter of intent to play at Oklahoma Christian, OC men’s coach David Lynn said Monday.
Ty Tamura of Edmond Memorial and Zac Schaefer of Oklahoma Christian School will join the Eagles for the 2014-15 school year.
“We are very fortunate to have two young men who both come from outstanding high school programs located right here in Edmond,” Lynn said. “I expect these two young men to make an immediate impact on our team here at OC.”
Tamura finished sixth in the Class 6A state tournament this past spring and posted a scoring average of 69.7 in nine rounds on the Oklahoma Junior Golf Tour this year.
"Ty is extremely gifted golfer who has the ability to shoot very low scores,” Lynn said. “He has shot multiple rounds in tournaments of 5- and 6-under-par. He is very focused and has an uncanny ability to get the ball in the hole under any circumstances. Ty is an excellent student with a 4.0 GPA and brings a great enthusiasm to everything he does.”
Schaefer was the Class 3A state co-medalist in 2013, losing in a playoff, after leading OCS to a state team title in 2012 by tying for fifth individually. He posted six top-five high school tournament finishes in 2013.
“Zac is an excellent golfer with a lot of potential,” Lynn said. “He has the unique combination of being a powerful player and a great putter. Zac's game will adjust very well to the college level.”
