ODESSA, Texas (April 6, 2013) – Lauren Pittman and Martha Thomas each hit a three-run home run and Oklahoma Christian used a pair of big innings to rout Heartland Conference rival Texas-Permian Basin 17-3 in the second game of a doubleheader.
UTPB won 5-2 in the opening game of a series that was moved to west Texas because of lingering wet field conditions after heavy rain in the Oklahoma City area earlier this week.
OC (17-15) scored six runs in the third inning and 10 in the sixth in the second game against UTPB (9-28). Pittman’s home run and a two-run double by Courtney Starr off UTPB starter Janessa Martinez (2-5) staked the Lady Eagles to a 6-0 lead.
The Falcons trailed 7-3 entering the seventh before another offensive outburst by OC. The Lady Eagles sent 13 batters to the plate. Starr, Lauren Chatigny, Monique Elliott and Kendra Pierce all had RBI hits before a Thomas’ three-run homer over the center field wall.
Taylor Mosher (6-3) allowed 10 hits but pitched a complete game, striking out four for OC. The game ended after six innings due to the run rule.
In the opener, UTPB pitcher Desiree Valero (5-13) threw a complete-game four-hitter. OC scored a pair of first-inning runs thanks to a two-run homer by Thomas, but the Lady Eagles managed only two hits over the final six innings.
The Falcons jumped on OC starter Lindsy Moore (5-8) and reliever Krystal Rodriguez for four runs in the fourth inning.
The two teams will complete their three-game series Sunday.
