LAREDO, Texas (April 19, 2013) – Kendra Pierce hit a two-run homer and a two-run double and Oklahoma Christian beat Texas A&M International 10-3 in the opening game of a doubleheader on Friday afternoon at Dustdevil Field.
TAMIU earned a split with a 14-6 win in the second game of the Heartland Conference series.
OC (19-21) trailed TAMIU 3-2 entering the fifth inning of the first game, but Sarah Peoples tied the game with a leadoff homer to right-center field off TAMIU starter Kyndall Reaves. After a double by Lauren Chatigny, Pierce hit a two-run homer over the center field wall off Reaves (6-10) to put the Lady Eagles up 5-3.
The Lady Eagles sealed the win with a five-run seventh inning, keyed by Pierce’s double. Courtney Starr and Peoples each had a run-scoring single during the inning.
Taylor Mosher relieved OC starter Lindsy Moore in the fourth inning and went the rest of the way in the pitching circle for the Lady Eagles. Mosher (7-5) allowed five hits and one run in 3 1/3 innings.
Rochelle Nash went 3-for-4 with a homer and six RBIs in the second game for the Dustdevils.
OC led 2-0 after the top of the second, but TAMIU jumped on Mosher, who started the game for the Lady Eagles, for six runs in the bottom of the inning. Two of those runs scored on a single by Nash.
The Lady Eagles scored two runs in both the third and fourth innings and tied the game at 6-6, taking advantage of two TAMIU errors in the fourth. Nash’s two-run single off Krystal Rodriguez (5-3) in the bottom of the fourth put the Dustdevils back ahead.
TAMIU (18-33) put the game away with a six-run fifth, capped by a two-run homer by Nash that ended the game due to the run rule.
Mariena Gallardo (6-4) picked up the pitching win for the Dustdevils, who snapped a seven-game losing streak with the win.
The Dustdevils and OC will play the rubber match of the three-game series on Saturday afternoon.
