Outfielder from state championship team signs with Lady Eagles
EDMOND, Okla. (April 29, 2013) – Abby Taliaferro, a starting outfielder on an Edmond North High School team that won the Oklahoma Class 6A softball title last fall, has signed a letter of intent to play at Oklahoma Christian, OC coach Tom Heath said Monday.
Taliaferro hit .436 as a senior for Edmond North, setting a single-season school record with seven home runs last season. She also was second on the Huskies’ squad in RBIs (38) and runs scored (41) and had nine stolen bases.
“Abby is a competitor who has played on some good teams and we think she’ll come in and make us better,” Heath said. “She is an excellent hitter and versatile on defense, because she can play third base or in the outfield. She will be competing for an outfield position next season.”
Taliaferro, who played left field for Edmond North, made the Oklahoma High School Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association’s All-State team. The Oklahoman also named her to its Big All-City first-team honor list as a senior and the Edmond Sun named her four times to its All-Edmond squads.
She is the fifth player to sign with OC for the 2013-14 academic year, joining Jordan Chism of Piedmont, Shea Coats of Tuttle, Niki Davidson of Community Christian in Norman and Haley Squier of Edmond Memorial.
