WICHITA FALLS, Texas (March 18, 2014) – A strong second round helped Oklahoma Christian maintain its spot in the standings and finish sixth in the Midwestern State Invitational, which ended Tuesday at Wichita Falls Country Club.
The 16 teams in the event finished the final six holes of their second round before playing their final round Tuesday. OC’s second-round score of 295 was a 12-shot improvement over its first-round 307, but the Eagles closed with a 309 to finish at 911, 41 shots behind the winner, St. Edward’s (Texas).
Among the seven Heartland Conference teams in the field, OC finished third – behind SEU and fifth-place Dallas Baptist (Texas) but ahead of St. Mary’s (Texas), Rogers State, McMurry (Texas), Arkansas-Fort Smith and Oklahoma Panhandle State.
OC’s top individual finisher was senior Alasdair Dalgliesh, who shot an even-par 71 on the 6,824-yard course in the second round before posting a final-round 75 to close at 223. He finished 10 shots behind the medalist, Derek Oland of Midwestern State.
Sam Johnston finished one shot behind Dalgliesh at 224, tied for 14th after rounds of 73 and 77. Rounds of 73 and 79 by Trey Payne left him at 230, tied for 27th in the 90-man field.
Johnny Ellis shot three straight rounds of 78 in the tournament and finished 44th at 234. Ryan Evans improved with both rounds Tuesday, shooting an 83, then an 80, to finish at 253. He tied for 81st.
