OC’s Odgers wins Australian par-3 tournament for 4th time
KYABRAM, Australia (June 6, 2013) – For the fourth time, Oklahoma Christian golfer Catherine Odgers won the Victorian Women’s Par 3 Championship in her native country.
Odgers, who will be a senior at OC this fall, shot a 7-over-par 61 on Thursday at Kyabram Parkland Golf Club, which is the only 18-hole par-3 course in the Australian state of Victoria, where Odgers is from.
Odgers finished the two-day event with a score of 124, four shots ahead of the runners-up, Michelle Hui and two-time defending champion Jessica Pickwick. Odgers also won the tournament in 2007, 2009 and 2010. This year’s tournament drew a record 148 entrants.
On Thursday, Odgers struggled a bit with her ball striking, but her short game – one of her strengths – lifted her to success. She fired a 32 on the front nine and improved with a 29 on the back nine.
During her junior season at OC, Odgers posted an 80.26 stroke average and three top-10 finishes, including a second-place showing at the Diffee Ford-Lincoln Invitational at Kickingbird Golf Course in Edmond. She earned All-America status by finishing eighth in the National Christian College Athletic Association Invitational at The Hombre Golf Club in Panama City Beach, Fla.
