SHAWNEE, Okla. (Dec. 3, 2013) – Oklahoma Christian senior Larry Brown took top honors Tuesday in the weight throw in the Oklahoma Baptist Early Qualifier meet, the first event of the OC track and field season.
The meet had originally been scheduled for Saturday but was moved to Tuesday because of winter weather forecast for central Oklahoma later this week.
Brown uncorked a toss of 15.96 meters (52 feet, 4½ inches) to win the weight throw and qualify for the National Christian College Athletic Association Indoor Championships in February.
Two other OC athletes competed in the meet. Sophomore Austin Wallace, who will compete in multi events for the Eagles, finished tied for fifth in the long jump (5.94 meters), sixth in the shot put (12.23 meters) and ninth in the 800 meters (2:15.35).
Freshman Keegan Palmer took third in the triple jump (12.51 meters) and 10th in the 200 meters (24.10 seconds).
The rest of OC’s men’s track team will open the indoor season on Jan. 10-11 at the Missouri Southern Indoor Invitational in Joplin, Mo.
