SKILLMAN, N.J. (March 20, 2013) – Oklahoma Christian remained atop the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s NCAA Division II South Central Region rankings, which were released Wednesday, while two OC player made their debut in the regional singles rankings.
OC (8-2) was regionally and nationally ranked last month for the first time as a Division II program. The Eagles currently are No. 10 in the national rankings, which will be updated next Wednesday.
Following OC in the regional rankings were Abilene Christian (Texas), Incarnate Word (Texas), Cameron, Midwestern State (Texas), St. Edward’s (Texas), Western New Mexico, St. Mary’s (Texas), McMurry (Texas) and Metro State (Colo.).
The Eagles own wins this season over Abilene Christian and Midwestern State. They have regular-season matches remaining against St. Edward’s, Incarnate Word, Cameron and Midwestern State.
In the first individual regional singles rankings of the year, OC’s Bruno Tiberti, a junior from Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Martin Poboril, a senior from Pribram, Czech Republic, were third and fourth, respectively. Tiberti is 7-3 this season, while Poboril is 6-4.
In doubles, Tiberti and Poboril – who have a 7-3 mark this season – were ranked third, while OC’s Nicolas Auruccio and Julio Pulido were ranked 10th with an 8-2 record.
The Eagles have faced a brutal schedule that has included seven opponents which were ranked either in Division II or the NAIA at the time of the match.
The first national singles and doubles rankings of the season also will be released next Wednesday.
