MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (March 17, 2013) – Oklahoma Christian’s second match of the season against a NCAA Division II top-five women’s squad ended the same way as the first – with a lopsided loss.
The Lady Eagles fell 5-0 on Sunday to No. 4 Barry (Fla.) at the Buccaneer Tennis Center. The match was stopped after Barry (15-0) clinched the team win, with the Buccaneers leading in the other four singles matches, too.
The only previous loss for OC (7-2) this season came by an 8-1 count against then-No. 3 Abilene Christian (Texas).
In doubles against Barry, OC’s most competitive showing came at the No. 1 position, at which Barbora Bozkova and Gisela Castany fell 8-3 to Barry’s Elisabeth Abanda and Emma Onila.
The Buccaneers clinched the win with a pair of straight-set singles victories. Barry’s No. 19-ranked Linda Fritschken beat Maryfer Abreu Roman 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3, while Isabela Miro blanked OC’s Rebeca Aguilar Dominguez 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.
No OC player took more than two games in any set in the singles matches.
OC, which beat NAIA No. 16 Northwood (Fla.) on Saturday, will face No. 21 Palm Beach Atlantic (Fla.) on Monday, NAIA No. 21 St. Thomas (Fla.) on Tuesday and No. 8 Lynn (Fla.) on Thursday.
