OKLAHOMA CITY (April 29, 2014) – Stephen Amalong, a key player for Class 5A prep power Bishop McGuinness, has signed to play college basketball at Oklahoma Christian, OC men’s coach Dan Hays said Tuesday.

Amalong, a 6-foot-1, 185-pound guard, averaged 13.9 points and 2.8 rebounds per game while leading the Fighting Irish to a 24-6 record and a state runner-up finish as a senior. Amalong shot 40.2 percent from 3-point range, connecting on 78 shots from behind the arc.

At McGuinness, he was coached by former OC player Tondrell Durham and played a major role on teams that reached three straight state championship games, winning in 2012.

“Stephen will be a good addition to our program,” OC coach Dan Hays said. “He comes from a McGuinness team that has enjoyed a lot of success under coach Durham.”

After this past season, Amalong earned honorable mention from The Oklahoman on the newspaper’s Class 5A All-State and Big All-City honor teams.
