OKLAHOMA CITY (March 15, 2013) – Kendra Pierce homered, tripled and had six RBIs as Oklahoma Christian run-ruled Oklahoma Panhandle State 9-1 on Friday in the second game of a Heartland Conference doubleheader at the ASA Hall of Fame Stadium Complex.
OC won its home conference opener against the Aggies by a 4-3 count thanks to an eighth-inning RBI single by Lauren Chatigny.
OC (11-10) left 13 runners on base in the first game, allowing OPSU (3-24) to hang with the Lady Eagles. The Aggies led 3-1 entering the bottom of the fourth inning before run-scoring singles by Sarah Peoples and Chatigny off OPSU starter Samantha Arledge tied the game.
Danielle Collins (1-2) relieved OC starter Lindsy Moore in the fourth inning and blanked OPSU the rest of the way. In the eighth, with the international tiebreaker rule in effect, the Aggies started with a runner on second base, but couldn’t advance her past third.
In the bottom of the inning, Lauren Pittman started on second base and went to third as Peoples reached on an error. Chatigny followed with her game-winning single.
OC’s bats came alive in the second game. Martha Thomas homered with one out in the second inning and Chatigny followed with a two-run single off OPSU starter Brittany Scruggs.
Pierce hit a grand slam in the fourth to make it 7-1 and her two-out, two-run triple in the bottom of the fifth put OC up 9-1 and ended the game via the eight-run rule.
Monique Elliott, Thomas, Pittman and Peoples each had three hits for the Lady Eagles, who finished with 16 hits in the game.
OC starter Krystal Rodriguez (3-1) allowed four hits and went the distance in the circle.
