OKLAHOMA CITY (Oct. 7, 2013) – Oklahoma Christian set a team single-round scoring record and took a five-shot lead on Monday after the first round of the RCB University of Central Oklahoma Classic at Lincoln Park Golf Club’s East Course.

Led by India Matthews and Audrey Meisch, the Lady Eagles posted a team score of 292 and led tournament host UCO by five shots. Southwestern Oklahoma State (299), Northeastern State (300), Arkansas Tech (300) and Heartland Conference rival Newman (Kan.) (302) all remained within striking distance in the 17-team event.

Matthews shot a 1-under-par 70 on the 6,023-yard course and was tied for second with Alex Patton of Newman, one shot behind Brittany Marquez of Harding (Ark.).

Meisch recorded seven birdies en route to a 71 and was tied for fourth.

Anna Arrese Cortadellas was tied for 21st in the 98-woman field after shooting a 75. Allison Sell was another shot back at 76, tied for 26th, while Dana Todd’s 78 left her tied for 37th.

Three OC players competed unattached. Alyssa Schneider (80) was tied for 53rd, Mindy Stafford (83) was tied for 71st and Emery Rakestraw (88) was tied for 86th.

The Lady Eagles’ team score broke the previous program record of 297, set last Oct. 2 in the second round of the RCB UCO Classic and matched on Sept. 9 in the first round of this fall’s season opener, the Hawks Creek Invitational at Hawks Creek Golf Club in Fort Worth, Texas.

“Audrey had some trouble putting but she hit the ball great,” OC coach Greg Lynn said. “As a team the score is good, but these girls can play better. It’s a first step. We will have to do it again tomorrow. There are some very good teams behind us.”
