OKLAHOMA CITY (April 30, 2013) – Emma Gade, who played the past two seasons at NCAA Division I Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, has transferred to Oklahoma Christian University to continue her basketball career, OC coach Stephanie Findley said Tuesday.

Gade, a 6-0 forward from Stillwater, will be immediately eligible at OC and will have three seasons of eligibility remaining. OC, a member of the Heartland Conference, is in the first year of the NCAA Division II membership process and hopes to advance to the second year of that process this summer.

“Emma is a hard-working player who is always trying to improve her game,” Findley said. “She is an excellent shooter and will immediately improve our 3-point shooting threat. She is a versatile forward who can play a two, three or four spot for us. Her length and agility should bolster our pressing game as well.”

Gade played in six games, starting two of those, for ORU during the 2011-12 season and averaged 2.5 points per game before suffering a season-ending knee injury and taking a redshirt season. This past season, she played in 11 games, averaging 1.8 points and 7.4 minutes for the Golden Eagles, who qualified for the NCAA tournament.

In high school, Gade earned All-State honors as a senior from the Oklahoma Girls Basketball Coaches Association and the Oklahoma Coaches Association after averaging 15.0 points and 6.7 rebounds per game.

It’s rare for Findley to bring Division I transfers into the OC program. By her recollection, the Lady Eagles have only had three previous Division I transfers during her 28 seasons as coach – Misty VanCuren from Oklahoma (1995-96 season), Kimya Murray from Texas-El Paso (2002-03 season) and Rachel Martin from Missouri State (2004-05 season to 2006-07 season). Vicky McCann, Findley’s teammate from the 1978-79 season through the 1980-81 season, also transferred to OC from Oklahoma.

Gade will be one of four newcomers to the OC squad next season, joining incoming freshmen Jordan Gorham of Perkins-Tryon, McKenzie Stanford of Perkins-Tryon and Kylee Hicks of Choctaw. OC went 20-13 last season, won the National Christian College Athletic Association Central Region title and finished fourth at the NCCAA Championship.
