Lady Eagles on cusp of Division II golf rankings
NEW YORK (Oct. 16, 2013) – Oklahoma Christian’s women’s golf program is starting to receive some recognition in the NCAA Division II ranks.
For the second straight month, the Lady Eagles are on the cusp of the Golf World/Women’s Golf Coaches Association Division II coaches’ poll. OC was 27th in the voting for the poll, released Wednesday, up three spots from the previous poll.
The Lady Eagles still trail a handful of teams they’ve beaten this fall (including No. 16 Cameron, No. 17 Arkansas Tech and No. 20 Newman, Kan.), but for a program that’s in only its third season of existence – and only its second year in the Division II membership process – the recognition is appreciated, coach Greg Lynn said.
OC has recorded three second-place finishes and one third-place finish during the fall season.
The national top 10 consists of Lynn (Fla.) Rollins (Fla.), Barry (Fla.), Florida Tech, St. Edward’s (Texas), Saint Leo (Fla.), Tarleton State (Texas), Central Oklahoma, Florida Southern and Indianapolis (Ind.).
Besides St. Edward’s and Newman, No. 19 Dallas Baptist (Texas) also represents the Heartland Conference in the top 25. OC will face DBU in next week’s National Christian College Athletic Association Invitational in Panama City Beach, Fla.
