EDMOND, Okla. (April 1, 2013) – Kalynn Schrock pitched a two-hit shutout and Central Oklahoma scored five runs in the fifth inning to finish off an 8-0 win over Oklahoma Christian on Monday afternoon at Broncho Field.
No. 9-ranked Central Oklahoma (25-7) had seven hits against three OC pitchers in winning the first game between the softball teams since they split a four-game series to start the 2005 season.
Courtney Starr went 2-for-2 for OC (16-14), but Schrock (15-3) shut down the rest of the Lady Eagles, recording five strikeouts. OC was unable to advance a runner past second base the entire game.
UCO leadoff hitter Kaylee Brunson went 1-for-1 with two walks and scored three runs, while the Bronchos’ cleanup batter, Hayley Hudson, went 1-for-1 with a walk, a sacrifice fly and three RBIs, two on a single down the left-field line in the fifth inning.
Brunson walked, stole second base, took third on a wild pitch by OC starter Lindsy Moore (5-7) and scored on a sacrifice fly by Ally Dziadula in the first inning. Brunson reached on a bunt single and scored as part of a two-run third-inning for UCO that made it 3-0.
The first four UCO batters reached base in the fifth against OC reliever Taylor Mosher. Hudson’s bases-loaded single made it 5-0, and one out later, Sam Cool doubled into the right-center field gap to make it 7-0. Two batters later, Tori Collet singled to center field off reliever Krystal Rodriguez, scoring Cool to end the game due to the run rule.
The Lady Eagles will be off until Friday, when they will host Heartland Conference foe Texas-Permian Basin in a doubleheader at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City.
