LAS COLINAS, Texas (March 4, 2013) – Defending tournament champion Jared Consoli and his Oklahoma Christian teammate Logan Herbst were tied for third after the first day of the 2013 Contender on Monday at TPC Four Seasons.
Consoli, playing as an individual, and Herbst each shot rounds of 2-over-par 73 and 1-over 72 to stand at 145, seven shots behind the leader, Nathan Anderson of Texas Wesleyan, and two behind another TWU golfer, Blake Vinson.
The Eagles posted team scores of 291 and 303, putting them in second place at 594, 20 shots behind Texas Wesleyan on the course that annually hosts the PGA Tour’s Byron Nelson Championship. OC was ahead of third-place Our Lady of the Lake (Texas) by seven shots. Fourteen teams are entered in the event.
OC freshman Sam Johnston also remained in the hunt after rounds of 71 and 75 left him at 146, tied for seventh in the 75-player field.
Vilhelm Bogstrand opened with a 72 but struggled to a 79 in the afternoon round and was tied for 17th at 151. Taylor Williams was tied for 22nd at 152 after shooting rounds of 75 and 77.
OC’s fifth player, Trey Payne, shot rounds of 78 and 81 and was tied for 49th at 159.
