ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. (April 9, 2014) – Oklahoma Christian’s Roz Hamilton seems to have made a seamless transition from basketball to track and field this spring.

Hamilton, less than three weeks removed from an All-America basketball campaign, already is on pace to set a career-best score in the heptathlon. Through four events at the Cowley Tiger Heptathlon on Wednesday, Hamilton scored 2,801 points and stood in third place in the 17-woman field.

The senior from Idabel will compete in the final three events – the long jump, javelin and 800 meters – on Thursday with a realistic shot at surpassing the 4,242-point total she recorded at the Cowley County event last year. The school record is 4,555 points, set by Julie Haynes in 1987.

Hamilton earned top honors in the shot put on Wednesday with a throw of 11.51 meters (37 feet, 9¼ inches) and was second in the high jump, leaping 1.62 meters (5 feet, 3¾ inches). In the two running events, she finished the 200 meters in 26.54 seconds and the 100-meter hurdles in 16.43 seconds.
