WINFIELD, Kan. (March 14, 2013) – Renaldo Garrett opened his senior track season with a win in the 110-meter hurdles and Larry Brown took top honors in the hammer as Oklahoma Christian began its outdoor season Thursday at the Southwestern (Kan.) Invitational.
Garrett, who sat out during the indoor season because he’d exhausted his indoor eligibility, finished in 15.15 seconds to lead the field of 17 competitors.
Garrett wasn’t the only hurdler who fared well at Southwestern. Winston Ogletree, who showed considerable improvement during the indoor season, finished fourth among 13 runners in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.29 seconds.
Brown finished atop the 29-man field in the hammer with a throw of 180 feet, 5 inches (55.00 meters).
Tracy Marshall, who scored for OC in both the long jump and triple jump at the National Christian College Athletic Association Indoor Championships last month, began his senior outdoor campaign with a third-place finish in the long jump. Marshall posted a mark of 22 feet, 6½ inches (6.87 meters).
The Eagles had two top-10 finishers in the 70-man field for the 800 meters. Roberto Diaz took fourth in 1:56.79 and Ryan Lutterloh was just behind in 1:57.34, good for eighth.
Freshman Bryant Keirns fared well in the 1,500 meters, taking 11th among 69 runners in 4:09.94.
