Eagles roll to 8-1 win over NAIA foe St. Thomas (Fla.)
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (March 19, 2013) – Nicolas Auruccio and Julio Pulido continued their hot streaks in singles play and No. 10-ranked Oklahoma Christian rolled to an 8-1 win over NAIA No. 24-ranked St. Thomas (Fla.) on Tuesday.
OC (8-2) breezed through the doubles matches, with only one that was somewhat close. At the No. 2 position, Auruccio and Pulido held off Juan Bravo and Grover Ordonez 8-5.
Auruccio and Pulido each have lost only once in singles play this season and kept that record intact against St. Thomas (4-5). Pulido, at No. 4 singles, routed Arturo Romero 6-1, 6-0, while Auruccio – the reigning Heartland Conference player of the week – beat Ariel Listo Argul 6-3, 6-3 at No. 5.
Bruno Tiberti, Martin Poboril and Josip Smoljan each posted a straight-set win for the Eagles at the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 positions, respectively.
The Bobcats’ only team point came at No. 6 singles, as OC’s Paulo Roessle defaulted to Esteban Serrano.
