KANSAS CITY, Kan. (Sept. 19, 2013) – Add men’s soccer to the list of Oklahoma Christian teams making a dent in NCAA Division II regional rankings.
The Eagles debuted in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/Continental Tire Division II South Central Region rankings this week at No. 9. The regional rankings were issued Tuesday afternoon, before OC lost 7-2 at national No. 9 Northeastern State that night.
The South Central Region consists of teams from the Heartland, Lone Star and Rocky Mountain Athletic Conferences. OC was one of three Heartland teams in the regional rankings, along with No. 2 Texas-Permian Basin and No. 5 St. Edward’s (Texas).
Before the loss at Northeastern, OC opened the season with a pair of road wins, beating Southern Nazarene 5-2 and Central Christian (Kan.) 6-0. The Eagles will visit Newman (Kan.) on Friday for a nonconference game before facing St. Gregory’s on Monday in their home opener.
OC is in the second year of the Division II membership process and the university’s teams are eligible for rankings in several sports. During the 2012-13 academic year, OC’s men’s golf and men’s and women’s tennis teams received national rankings and its baseball team appeared in the regional rankings once.
This school year, OC’s men’s golf team opened the season ranked No. 24 in Division II.
