Arrese Cortadellas leads, Lady Eagles 2nd after 1st day of Southwest Classic

ARLINGTON, Texas (April 1, 2013) – Anna Arrese Cortadellas led three Oklahoma Christian golfers in the top 10 after the first day of the Southwest Classic on Monday at Tierra Verde Golf Club.

Arrese Cortadellas shot an even-par 72 on the 5,997-yard course, good for a one-shot lead over Mercedes Rios of Dallas Baptist (Texas) and two players from Northwood (Texas), Fariza Zain and Esther Kang. Arrese Cortadellas is seeking her second individual win of the spring and the sixth of her college career.

Another shot back was OC freshman Audrey Meisch, who posted one of her best rounds of the spring season with a 74. Sarah Harper fired a 76 and was tied for 10th in OC’s final tournament of the spring season.

Only 20 shots separated the nine teams in the tournament. Dallas Baptist led after posting a team score of 300, with OC two shots back in second place. Northwood stood third at 307.

OC’s No. 4 player on Monday was Catherine Odgers, who was tied for 26th after shooting an 80. Morgan Dockery shot a 95 for the Eagles and was 51st.

After the first round was finished, players went back out to play nine holes as tournament organizers prepared for anticipated weather problems on Tuesday. The final nine holes will be played starting at 8 a.m. Tuesday.
