TUTTLE, Okla. (Nov. 21, 2012) – Shea Coats, a standout pitcher who led Tuttle High School to the Class 4A semifinals this fall, has signed a letter of intent to play college softball at Oklahoma Christian University, OC coach Tom Heath said Wednesday.
Coats signed during the ongoing NCAA signing period. OC is in the first year of the NCAA Division II membership process.
After helping Tuttle finish 33-7 this fall, Coats was named to the Middle West All-State team by the Oklahoma High School Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association.
“We are very pleased that Shea signed with OC,” Heath said. “She is a very talented athlete with good academics and high moral character. Shea is an outstanding pitcher who we have been recruiting since her sophomore year. We plan on Shea being in the rotation her freshman year and will utilize her speed in the outfield as well.”
Coats, a right-hander known for her outstanding riseball, is the latest in a long line of quality pitchers to come out of Tuttle’s powerhouse program. In the Tigers’ two state tournament games this year – a 3-1 win over Purcell and a 2-1 loss to Oologah – Coats struck out 24 batters and allowed only seven hits.
