OC presents band and orchestra concerts

Oklahoma Christian University will present its final instrumental concerts of the school year next week. The Chamber Orchestra performs on Sunday, April 13 and the Symphonic Band and Jazz Ensemble perform on Thursday, April 17.
The Oklahoma Christian University Department of Music will present its 2014 Opera Scenes performance April 4-5. The free concert begins at 7:30 p.m. each night in OC’s Adams Recital Hall.

Spiritual development experts John Westerhoff and Holly Allen will be the featured speakers at the third-annual Intergenerational Faith Center Dialogues at Oklahoma Christian on April 1. The event is free and open to the public.

1985 OC grad Philip Wood was on the Malaysia Airlines flight that is presumed to have crashed Saturday. He lived in Beijing, where he worked as an executive with IBM.

Oklahoma Christian will present 198 undergraduate degrees and 39 graduate degrees at spring commencement on April 25-26. Mark Brewer, senior vice president and chief information officer for Seagate Technology, will deliver Friday’s undergraduate commencement address. Chip Kooi, a professor of theology at OC, will keynote Saturday’s graduate ceremony.

Oklahoma Christian University will expand from three to five colleges this year. Dr. Jeff McCormack is the dean of the new College of Natural and Health Sciences. Dr. Byron Newberry will serve as dean of OC’s College of Engineering and Computer Science.
Oklahoma Christian University held its first-ever international commencement ceremony Saturday, presenting 38 Rwandan students with Masters in Business Administration degrees.

OC alumnus Taylor Goad was named to the “20 Under 30” list by Print magazine, which celebrates young designers who are making a mark in the art world.
