JOPLIN, Mo. (Jan. 12, 2013) – In its first race of the indoor track season, Oklahoma Christian’s record-setting 4x400-meter women’s relay team finished fourth on Saturday in the Missouri Southern Open Invitational.
The foursome of Andrea Dennis, Maegan Cowan, Somer Helms and Alyssa Garrett broke the OC indoor and outdoor records in the event last season. Freshman Rebecca Bloodworth has replaced the departed Garrett on the team, running the first leg, followed by Dennis, Helms and Cowan.
The OC quartet finished Saturday in 4:11.61, well off the school-record time of 3:56.75 they post in last year’s NAIA Indoor Championships.
The Lady Eagles trailed Coffeyville (Kan.) Community College, which won in 4:03.08, as well as Pittsburg State (Kan.) and Missouri Southern, but beat seven other teams.
The Lady Eagles’ other primary success Saturday came in the 400 meters, with Cowan taking fifth among the 23 runners in 1:01.75, with Dennis 12th in 1:04.33.
