High School Students Taste College Life

Greetings from the campus of Oklahoma Christian! Even though most of our students are not here we have a lot happening on campus... There are Cage Camps going on, Honors Summer Academy students are here, and Global Reunion serving Third Culture families will soon arrive. Below are a few other activities of interest as well as some special OC heroes to keep in your prayers. The OC family is a blessed family and you're a key part of it!

First Class in Vienna?

Yes, it's true! Each summer, before the regular school year begins, OC President, John deSteiguer, and First Lady, Darla deSteiguer, invite some of the incoming freshman class to join them for a week at OC's Das Millicanhaus in Vienna, Austria. They earn their first college credits taking classes and doing assignments while experiencing one of Europe's historical and iconic cities. The year's group of 25 students are there now. Send us the names of high school students you know who might love the global culture of the overall OC experience, maybe even their First Class!

1970's Reunion Lunch

Here are some photos from a recent reunion of OCC alumni from the 1970’s decade. Several were in OKC over the 4th of July weekend and coordinated with others to a get-together at Johnnie’s in Edmond. We know the friendships and connections of your time at OC can literally span decades. We are blessed for the time each of us spent at our alma mater and more so for the occasions we get to reconnect with one another. Please be sure and send us photos when your OC friend groups spend time together. WE LOVE IT!

OC Alumni in the Pacific Northwest

Another OC group that recently organized a get together is our Cascade College alumni. As you may know, OC operated Cascade College (the former Columbia Christian College) in Portland, Oregon from 1994-2009. Many of the folks who served on faculty and staff at Cascade during that time as well as students from those years recently had a reunion on their former campus in Portland. OC has a strong presence in the Pacific Northwest and we appreciate all who had a hand in organizing and carrying out this reunion.

OC in Myrtle Beach

Here’s another great photo we found online from the family of the late Mr. & Mrs. Bill ’53 & Sue (Mires ’54) Antwine. The Antwine family have been strong supporters of Oklahoma Christian since the days in Bartlesville and the succeeding generations of Antwine's continue to support OC in many ways. Wearing OC shirts, this photo of Antwine's who are OC alumni was taken during their recent vacation to Myrtle Beach, SC.  It is a blessing to see their legacy being carried on by their 2nd, 3rd, and soon to be 4th generation of OC Eagles. Send us your photos when you are wearing OC gear and traveling throughout the world. We would love to see them!

Homecoming 2019, November 1-2

Homecoming 2019 is only about 3 months away! We are helping plan some great reunions for you to enjoy.

Disney's The Little Mermaid will be an incredible musical for your entire family to attend this year. Tickets can be purchased at oc.edu/homecoming. Alumni receive a 50% discount on tickets and there are child and senior tickets as well.

If you are a former cheerleader, there will be an all-school Cheer reunion at Homecoming 2019 headed up by Pat Lawson ’67 and Judy Branch ’85 as well as new OC Cheer & Stunt coach Susan Jones. You can read more about our new competitive Cheer & Stunt program here, https://oceagles.com/news/2019/2/18/general-competitive-cheer-stunt-to-join-ocs-athletic-lineup.aspx. For more info on the reunion, please contact Coach Susan Jones at susan.jones@oc.edu. ALSO, if you know of high school girls who would like to be involved in competitive cheer & stunt at the college level, please have them contact Susan Jones as well.

The class of 1969 is our 50-year reunion this year; Kappa Sigma Tau will be celebrating its 50th year at OC, and the 2000s is our featured reunion decade. We'll also have some breakfast reunions and a 20 year Vienna reunion. If you are part of these groups and would like to be involved or receive more information, contact us at alumni@oc.edu. Contact your college friends and plan to meet up on the OC campus. Be sure and circle November 1st and 2nd on your calendar so you don’t miss OC Homecoming 2019. Further information can be found at oc.edu/homecoming.

OC Night at the OKC Dodgers

OC is having a night with the OKC Dodgers, the AAA affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday, August 9th and we’d love for you to join us if you are in the OKC area. Tickets are $12 plus fees and include admission to the game with terrace seating, an OKC Dodgers ballcap, a combo voucher to be used at any Braum’s restaurant, and sweet fellowship with OC alumni and friends. You can purchase your ticket at https://groupmatics.events/event/OCAlumni. See you there!

New Garden Honors OC Friend

Last month around the time Eagle Excerpts went live, we were celebrating the life and the campus contributions of longtime OC employee and friend Macie Jackson. A new garden located on the north side of the Thelma Gaylord Forum pays tribute to Macie and her dedication to OC and the beautification of this campus. She is missed around here and we are thankful to those who made the Macie Jackson Memorial Garden possible.

Calling All Prayer Warriors

Please keep in your thoughts and prayers several of OC’s retired faculty and staff as they battle illness. Dr. Howard Leftwich, former Chair of the College of Business, is in hospice care at his home. Dr. Max Dobson, former Coach, and Athletic Director continues to battle Parkinson’s disease. Ralph Burcham, former Business Professor, has been sick with pneumonia and his wife, Gladys Burcham, former Librarian, is in hospice care. Also, Dr. John Maple ’72, Professor of History, continues to battle cancer, as does Darci (Grisso '00) Thompson, former Director of Wellness. Please keep these Oklahoma Christian heroes and their caregivers in your prayers.

Stafford North's Good News Newsletter

July "Good News" shares the 2018 annual report for Hope for Haiti’s Children, which highlights their outstanding mission. Then there is a story about a man named George Bible who paved the way for the message of Christ to be shared in prison. Additionally, "Good News" spotlights a doctor who uses his gifts in a free clinic and shares an article that presents an avenue for foreign church leaders to gain degrees online.  All are interesting stories and all good news
