Welcome Home to OC!

Dear OC Alum, Welcome to July on the campus of our alma mater. It's an honor to be back on the OC campus and to serve in this newly expanded role on behalf of our alma mater! We have a small, but powerful team in your Alumni Office. Chris Adair ('97) and Kim (Bean) Reiter ('91) join with me as a conduit of engagement for you with OC. It's an exciting time and we look forward to sharing news with you on a regular basis, via Eagle Excerpts, and other points of contact. OC is Home! ...Alan W. Phillips, Vice President for Alumni Relations

Now, to the news...

OC's National Champion in Track

OC has a National Champion in Men's Track and Field! See the story at oceagles.com/news/2018/5/26/mens-track-and-field-huslig-becomes-ocs-first-division-ii-national-champion-taking-400-hurdles-title.aspx?path=mtrack. Landon Huslig became OC’s first-ever National Champion at the Division II level when he won the 400-meter hurdles at the  NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Charlotte, NC. Back in May, Landon’s time was among this year's top 10 times NATIONALLY in the 400M Hurdles, qualifying him to run in the USA Track & Field Outdoor Championships against the best collegiate runners in the US. For more on the story click here: oceagles.com/news/2018/6/14/mens-track-and-field-huslig-to-run-at-usa-track-and-field-championships.aspx?path=mtrack. That competition took place at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa in June and Huslig placed 17 out of 25 competitors to complete his collegiate career. Click here for more: oceagles.com/news/2018/6/21/mens-track-and-field-husligs-season-ends-at-usatf-outdoor-championships.aspx?path=mtrack. Very proud of Landon’s success, hard work, and dedication.

Calling & Career

OC will be rebooting and expanding our Office of Career Services to become a Center for Calling & Career. Working from momentum established by our previous director, Candace Owens, who is leaving OC on July 24, we are already making plans for a highly visible and physically central community resource. This new center will continue to emphasize corporate/community networking and job placement, but it will also invest more deeply in Christ-centered purpose-seeking with our students, colleagues, and the broader OC family. It has already been lovingly referred to it as the "What am I doing with my life?" center.

Will Blanchard (‘07), who has assumed the role of Executive Director of Advancement, will oversee the launch of this new center and will be working to build on-campus and off-campus partnerships for internships, mentor networks, and more over the coming months. Stay tuned for more info on this exciting new direction for OC and if you have any ideas/questions for Calling & Career email will.blanchard@oc.edu.

Dr. Richard Mock

We are sorry to report the passing of Dr. Richard Mock, OC’s former Vice-President and Dean of Students. Dr. Mock struggled with his health over the past several years and as we grieve with his family and loved ones, we rejoice in his victory over this life Click here for more information: matthewsfuneralhome.com/richard-myron-dean-mock-jr-ph-d/. You can also see notes about Dr. Mock on our facebook page at facebook.com/oklahomachristian/posts/.

2018 Honors Summer Academy, Theology Summer Academy and Global Reunion

Our annual Honors Summer Academy hosted by the OC Honors program was held last week on campus. 96 students participated in this program which is an annual, one-week college experience hosted by OC's Honors Program to encourage the pursuit of excellence by gifted and talented students presently in 9th-11th grade. Of the 96 students, 32 were children or grandchildren of OC alumni. Thanks to all who send their next generation to OC for events like HSA. You’re making a difference at our alma mater. Below are pictures from this year's program.

OC Texas Summer Events

We loved seeing alumni and friends during recent OC events at a Texas Rangers game in Arlington and a Houston Astros game in Houston. We are thankful for our alumni in these areas who support our university in a variety of ways. We look forward to continuing these new OC traditions next summer.

Where in the World is OC?

We always enjoy seeing photos of your world travels especially when you are sporting your OC threads. Here’s a couple of pics we recently received from alumni summitting Mt. Fuji and Mt Kilimanjaro respectively. Be sure and tag us in your photos when you are wearing OC gear in your travels. You can also email your photos directly to us at alumni@oc.edu for inclusion in our Where In The World Is OC section of Vision alumni magazine.

Stafford North's Good News Newsletter

The July issue of Good News tells about OC Nursing Students as they fulfill their requirement for serving in a mission field, about the growth of a congregation in Western Honduras, about Rural America Ministries working with a small congregation in Yale, Oklahoma, and about the great work around the world of the White Rock Fund.

For information on the OC Lectureship set for September 30 and October 1, go to oc.edu/lectureship.  The next Good News will come in September.  Be sure to forward these stories to your friends and to your congregation.  Send story ideas to stafford.north@oc.edu.  To open the newsletter go to oc.edu/goodnews.

After camps are over, we won’t have long to wait for our incoming freshmen to arrive for 'Earn Your Wings' with returning students arriving shortly after. We miss our students around here during the summer but the time always passes much faster than we expect and we’re looking forward to the 2018-19 OC academic year.

In Him,
Alan Phillips ('76)
