We are well into our Spring 2019 semester and our students are working hard in class and many of them are making final preparations for Spring Sing 2019 (see below). We have had amazing and important speakers on campus recently and our basketball, bowling, swim, baseball, and softball teams are carrying our alma mater's name proudly into competition all across the region. It's a great time to be an OC Eagle and we welcome you back to campus at your next opportunity.

Spring Sing and Spring Visit Next Week

Spring Sing tickets are in short supply for the performances on March 1st and 2nd, so if you don’t have yours yet, go to www.oc.edu/boxoffice. This year’s theme is What’s Love Got to Do With it? The show is directed by 2nd generation OC’er Jenni Jones '19, daughter of Darren ’88 and Susan Jones. Don’t miss this OC tradition! Also, invite teens you know to come to OC for Spring Visit. See the schedule of activities at oc.edu/springvisit. It's not too late!

Music Department Shines

OC's Music Department production of Cabaret is in the books! Additionally, the Judd Theatre stage has been named for OC alumni David ('66) and Jane (Hendrix '65) Buntley. If you have never been to OC’s Cabaret performances you are missing out on the amazing talent of our amazing students. Every year Cabaret introduces its audiences to music from newer Broadway shows as well as old favorites. Circle the week of Valentine’s Day on your calendar in 2020 and make plans to join us for this wonderful OC offering. Those of you planning to see the show in Houston (March 16, 7:00 pm at Memorial Church of Christ) and/or the ones booked for the 7 night Royal Caribbean cruise over Spring Break, you’re going to LOVE IT!

National Social Justice Heroes on Campus

OC’s 6th annual History Speaks program was held Feb. 4th and featured civil rights leader Andrew Young, a former US Ambassador to the UN, US Representative, Mayor of Atlanta, and contemporary of Dr. Martin Luther King. It was a capacity crowd as Andrew Young spoke of his time with Dr. King and his work in the US Civil Rights movement after Dr. King’s death.

OC also welcomed Bryan Stevenson, author of New York Times bestseller, Just Mercy, Founder & Executive Director of Equal Justice Initiative which is known for its commitment to end mass incarceration and excessive punishment in the US. On February 18, Stevenson came to campus for OC’s 2nd installment of Complex Dialogues. This year’s program focused on our state’s criminal justice system and the need for reform. It brought many important thought leaders and influencers to our campus. We are grateful to sponsors who help underwrite events like these: Jim Maple ('71), George Kaiser Family Foundation, Inasmuch Foundation, Arnall Family Foundation, McBride Center for Public Humanities, Don and Donna Millican, Alice Mankin, M.D., Tree of Life Bookstore.

OC Retirees Gather

Last Friday, we hosted our Golden Eagles, who are 10+ year retirees, for brunch and presentation by OC President, John deSteiguer. With dozens of our campus heroes present (including Drs. Mike Gipson '66 and Ken Adams '69 and Joe McCormack '59), the morning was rich with nostalgia and sweet reunion. The group prayed together and attended Great Songs Chapel in the packed house of Judd Theatre. Also, see our new OC Prayer page list at oc.edu/alumni/.

OC Business Programs Named in Top 20

Oklahoma Christian's Accounting program has been ranked number one of all colleges/universities in Oklahoma. The ranking organization study.com also released their national rankings of undergraduate and graduate marketing schools and named OC's program 18th on their top 50 listing. Contributing to OC earning this distinction the release cited... "Based in Oklahoma City, this university offers an ACBSP-accredited BBA in Marketing Management program with four emphasis options, including advertising, professional selling, marketing management, and technology-mediated marketing. You can also find an international business bachelor’s program with an emphasis in marketing. The university teams with several Fortune 500 companies in the city, so you’ll have numerous opportunities to gain practical experience during the program."

Congratulations to College of Business Dean Dr. Jeff Simmons ('91), and our marketing faculty.
