Graduation is Almost Here!

Happy April, OC Alum! Do you remember what April was like on the OC campus? This week is Finals Week, capped by graduation this Friday. Please pray for our students during this stressful time and for their futures. They carry the torch of scholarship and service. This past Friday, 168 Oklahoma Flags and 168 American flags were planted on OC's campus as a memorial of the OKC Bombing, which took place on April 19, 1995. OC Remembers! #WeRemember

OC Associates Gala

We recently hosted our annual OC Associates Gala at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum and it was an amazing evening. OC Associates are those who annually contribute $1,000 or more for student scholarships at Oklahoma Christian. The Associates Gala is our way of thanking and honoring our Associates as well as showcasing many of our outstanding students and programs. It is also an occasion to recognize an outstanding Oklahoma community member with the Lee Allan Smith Spirit of Oklahoma Award. We have presented this award in the past to outstanding Oklahomans such as Darci Lynne Farmer from America’s Got Talent, former Oklahoma Governors, former OKC mayors, and this year the Spirit of Oklahoma Award was presented to the OKC Thunder for their impact on our community. The award was accepted by Thunder GM Sam Presti and Thunder assistant coach Maurice ‘Mo’ Cheeks. We have several OC alums employed by the Thunder organization.
If you are interested in becoming an OC Associate, you can go to www.oc.edu/associates for more info.

Senior Sendoff Events

Alumni Relations has recently had the opportunity to celebrate our outgoing OC seniors with some Senior Sendoff activities. We took 120 seniors to late season Thunder games at Chesapeake Arena and ended the evening with an on-court group photo with Thunder mascot, Rumble the Bison. Last week, we hosted a Food Truck Lawn party on campus where seniors got together to enjoy some amazing food from The Hall’s Pizza Kitchen and also from OC alumni owned Klemm’s SmokeHaus, as well as snowcones from EskimoSno of Edmond. We love the opportunity these events provide to connect with our seniors and to encourage them as they soon graduate and welcome them as new OC alumni. We are grateful to OC Alumni who financially underwrite our Senior Sendoff program which allows our seniors to leave OC knowing they are cared for and valued. Welcome new alumni!

Alumni Are Invited to Rangers and Astros Games

As we have done the past few years, we will be hosting upcoming alumni events for our North Texas alumni at a Texas Rangers baseball game and for our Houston alumni at an Astros game. The OC Night with the Astros is first up on Monday, May 20th. We will see the Astros take on the Chicago White Sox at Minute Maid Park in Houston. Tickets are $25 each and can be reserved at www.oc.edu/astros. The Rangers game will be Tuesday, June 4th and we will see them take on the Baltimore Orioles and President John deSteiguer will be with us. To reserve tickets for the Rangers game, go to www.oc.edu/rangers. Let OC alumni youth ministers and youth leaders in your areas know about these events, or send their contact info on to us. These are opportunities for prospective students and alumni to connect and have some fun together. Reduced ticket prices are made possible by alumni sponsors, including Patterson Auto Group. We look forward to seeing some of you at these events!

Student Business Team Reaches Finals at Love's Cup

Love’s Cup is a statewide competition whereby college business teams submit a business plan, that simulates the real world process of researching a market, writing a business plan and making a presentation to potential investors. This year's OC entrance is called Project Eden. Project Eden advanced to the finals of their category and found out this past Thursday they placed second out of 6 finalists. To learn more about Project Eden, check out the attached Talon article at http://www.talon.news/news/oc-students-put-business-skills-to-test-with-project-eden/.

Stafford North's Good News Newsletter

The April issue of Good News shares stories about how a theology class is key to the work in Campinas, Brazil, about new Christians in Athens, Greece, about the success of some unusual converts in Rwanda, and about World Bible School reaching a new record number of contacts.  All great stories about good things happening among churches of Christ.

OC Stories

The April issue of OC Stories tells about four groups of OC students who used their Spring Break to serve churches and communities, about OC’s highly successful softball team, and about our ethics team who placed third in the nation. There are also stories about an OC alumna who has been named as president of the University of Central Oklahoma, and about OC students who were chosen to attend a national conference on letting your Christian light shine in sports programs. These stories show both the high degree of success among OC students and alumni and the University’s commitment to Christian principles.
So, take a moment to read them all. See the stories about OC’s successes by going to www.oc.edu/OCStories. Send story ideas to stafford.north@oc.edu
