Darci Lynne Farmer- Edmond Resident and Winner of "America's Got Talent" Single-handedly Entertained a Capacity Crowd

Dear Fellow Eagles..... This will be my final edition of Eagle Excerpts as the writer. I hope you will continue to check it monthly, though, for ongoing news of what's happening with your alma mater. I was asked to write the introduction page of our next Vision magazine to be out in May. Within those comments, I will say much more about my time at OC, but let me just say here that I've had an amazing opportunity to work on campus and hope that in some way I have contributed something both on campus and to alumni.

Now, to the news...

Associates Gala 2018

OC’s Annual Associates Gala was held Thursday, April 5, at OKC’s National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. With over 700 in attendance, the stories and successes of Oklahoma Christian students, faculty, staff, and alumni were shared with OC’s Associates level givers and their guests. OC Associates are those who give $1,000 or more annually to OC’s unrestricted scholarship fund to help defray the cost of students attending Oklahoma Christian. The Lee Allan Smith Spirit of Oklahoma award which is presented each year at the Associates Gala went this year to Oklahoma teen Darci Lynne Farmer, winner of America’s Got Talent. Darci Lynne and her family were on hand to accept the award and engage in a Q & A with President deSteiguer about their family and their faith. Darci Lynne also gave a short performance for the Associates audience who LOVED it! THANK YOU to our 2017-2018 OC Associates and ALL who give to our alma mater.

April 19- Field of Flags

OC’s Harvey #FieldofFlags went up at the front of campus April 17th in honor of the April 19th anniversary of the 1995 Oklahoma City Murrah Federal Building bombing. 168 US flags and 168 Oklahoma flags, representing the 168 lives lost in that tragedy, stand in front of our university for several days each year surrounding the April 19th remembrance. If you’ve never been to campus for this display, we’d love for you to come experience it when you have the opportunity. This is one small way OC remembers and pays tribute to all who were impacted by this tragic event. #WeRemember

Dobson Field Improvements

Recent improvements to Dobson Field at OC were celebrated on Tuesday, April 17, as Coach Max Dobson and family were on hand for a ribbon-cutting and sharing of memories. This ribbon-cutting was a celebration of the grandstand addition to Dobson Field which added a press box, concessions area, and restrooms among other upgrades. OC is blessed by the work of Dr. Max Dobson as our baseball coach, women’s basketball coach, athletic director and professor of physical education. Dr. Dobson’s work with Edmond’s disabled children through his Teaching the Disabled Child class at OC may be one of his most enduring legacies and continues today. Numerous Edmond public school students with a variety of disabilities have been served through the years by Dobson’s efforts and generations of OC students and alumni have been blessed by their participation in these efforts. SO thankful for the impact and influence of Dr. Dobson and his family on our alma mater.

Homeward Pride Club Winners! Delta Gamma Sigma

Each year, our OC social service clubs reach out to club grads in the Homeward Pride Club Competition, building relationships and raising gifts for their passion projects. The competition was hot this year, and with 878 club grads giving back, we're excited to announce that...
The Homeward Pride Champions of 2017-18 are none other than the men of Delta Gamma Sigma! Chi and Theta placed second and third, and several clubs received bonus prizes for surpassing individual goals! Congratulations!
With so many reasons to celebrate (878 reasons, to be exact), OC students gathered to recognize and thank our generous donors (you!). Thank you for all you do for OC. You're our hero.

Golden Eagles on Campus

On Friday, April 13, we held our semi-annual Golden Eagles Brunch on campus in the Gaylord Room. Golden Eagles are OC faculty and staff retirees. They are invited to a continental breakfast for fellowship and university updates from President deSteiguer. It’s so wonderful to see these friends and former colleagues who have been the very fiber of Oklahoma Christian.

Senior Sendoff- 9th Year & Going Strong!

Senior Sendoff is a program financed by OC alumni interested in recognizing and showing appreciation for our graduating seniors. Seniors are taken to Thunder basketball games where they can enjoy fun and fellowship together as a senior class. We have another Senior Sendoff event we call our Food Truck Lawn Party in April where food trucks are brought on campus to serve our graduating seniors and provide another opportunity to relax together around a meal and just enjoy each other’s company.  We also give all of our "alums to be" their first OC Alumni shirt. THANK YOU to our alumni who financially support this program. It’s a great way to welcome these soon-to-be OC graduates to the OC alumni ranks.

OC Mission Fields This Summer

In Missions Chapel on Wednesday, April 18th prayers were said and charges given to many of the 176 OC students, faculty/staff, and alumni who will be traveling to 6 continents and 27 countries to do the Lord’s work in the mission fields this summer. Please join us in keeping these friends and family in your prayers this summer.

Thanks to those of you who read this newsletter often and are concerned about the work here. OC needs your support. I wish you all the best.
