Admission Requirements

In addition to meeting the criteria for admission to Oklahoma Christian University, the applicant to the nursing program must meet the following additional requirements:

  1. A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (beginning class of 2018).

  • Applicants who have prior university work either at Oklahoma Christian University or another higher learning institution must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 (beginning class of 2018) on a 4.0 scale. GPA will be calculated on pre-nursing courses required for the nursing curriculum, not general education courses required to fulfill graduation requirements. .

  • For students who have a previous baccalaureate degree from an accredited U.S. university, the faculty has agreed to consider the hours taken before coming to Oklahoma Christian when determining the student’s core curriculum requirements. The degree must include at least 30 hours in courses typically required for the core curriculum, with at least one course in the following seven categories; Communication, Math, American Citizenship, Behavioral Science, Literature/Fine Arts, Science, and Global Civilization. If the student has fulfilled at least five of these prior categories to coming to Oklahoma Christian, he or she will be able to complete courses on campus to fulfill up to two deficient areas in the seven categories. The student will also be required to complete the following courses at Oklahoma Christian: 6-8 hours of Bible, to include BIBL 4222 – Senior Bible Seminar; and Phil 4113 – Senior Philosophy Seminar.  The students will be required to meet all nursing prerequisite courses.  An individualized plan of study will be determined after reviewing transcripts for all transfer students.

  1. Three letters of recommendation.

  2. Achievement Testing (nurse entrance exam)  A score of 77% or higher is required.

  3. Negative results of both federal criminal background checks and drug screening exams.

  4. International students:  Evidence of English proficiency.  Non U.S. citizens must submit a minimum English proficiency test score.  The following tests and minimum scores are acceptable: TOEFL, 550 PBT minimum and 79 IBT minimum or IELTS, 6.5 minimum or TOEIC, 750 minimum

Persons who have been convicted of a crime, other than a minor traffic violation, could be ineligible for admission to the university and/or for registered nurse licensure in the state of Oklahoma even though they successfully complete the program.

Advanced Placement

  1. Transfer credits or credit by CLEP or AP may be awarded for non-nursing courses as described in the OC Catalog.

  2. At this time, graduates of associate degree and diploma programs who are RN's are not eligible to earn credit in selected nursing courses. Contact the Department of Nursing Office for additional information.
