Honors Program

The quest for meaning in the OC Honors Program leads us toward the university’s highest mission outcomes as we seek to exceed the goals for Honors study as articulated by the National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC).

The OC Honors Program is the “most rigorous” NCHC model: a core-based, cohort-centered program offering team-taught Honors seminars for 40 exceptional freshmen each year. The model fits with any OC major. (We do not offer any "contract"-based credits; this is the "more work" model of Honors study. Besides that, our alumni assessments never recommend that OC's senior year offerings need supplementation.)

These 40 students participate in a First Year Adventure and most select the living-learning community in Honors House at Davisson Hall. The average ACT/SAT per cohort is above 31/1440. National Merit Scholars, OGE Scholars, and Presidential Leadership programs are available by application.

Most OC Honors students study abroad in the fall or summer of their sophomore year (Vienna, Austria, or Pacific Rim). All Honors students participate in Symposium each Monday and are eligible for Catalyst Grants for their senior capstone projects.

We recommend applying for Honors admission before December 1; wait-listing usually begins in January. Those who have missed the December date but would still like to apply, contact lisa.carroll@oc.edu

For first-year Honors students seeking placement in Honors House, please apply for housing and send in your deposit as soon as possible. Davisson Hall is a designated honors first-year residence filled on a first-come, first-served basis. For housing questions, please email jessica.estes@oc.edu.

The OC Honors program is a member of the National Collegiate Honors Council and hosts more than 130 students from all three of OC's colleges in a core-based, cohort system designed for exceptionally prepared and motivated students. The Honors Core at Oklahoma Christian includes six team-taught seminars led by the university’s teaching scholars.

Each year, about 25% of the students are National Merit Scholars. Recent Honors alumni have been accepted into leading graduate schools such as Stanford University, professional programs such as the University of Oklahoma School of Law, and executive and professional placements with leading corporations. An Honors Summer Academy provides inspirational learning opportunities for students following the freshman year of high school.
