Dr. Hamlett works at OC because of an "appreciation for its Christian mission." He is interested in general topology and teaching with graphing technology. He has written 40 publications and is a member of the Mathematical Association of America. Dr. Hamlett is a sponsor of Kappa Mu Epsilon, the Mathematics Honor Society. His favorite memory of OC was attending chapel on one of his visits while he was being interviewed. Dr. Hamlett was on active duty in the U.S. Air Force from 1975-1977 and was in the reserves from 1977-1981. He reached the rank of Captain. Dr. Hamlett came to OC from East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma where he served as the Chair of the Department of Mathematics from 1981 to 2005. He and his wife Melba have three children, Sean, Heather, and Melissa, and seven grandchildren. He attends Southwest Church of Christ in Ada where he is a Bible class teacher.
