Jeff Bigelow, Ph.D.

Chair, Electrical and Computer Engineering Department

Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering

  • B.S., Colorado State University
  • M.S., University of Illinois at Urbana
  • Ph.D., University of Illinois at Urbana

Area of Interest: Electronics

Dr. Bigelow works at OC because of the students.  “I get to help students develop the gifts God has given them and teach them to use those gifts in His service as engineers. I mostly view my job as a mentor and encourager not to give up." He has two daughters: Suzanne and Shannon.  He attends Memorial Road Church of Christ, where he has served as a teacher for adult, youth and children classes.

Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering

Kenneth Bell, M.S.

Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering

  • B.S.E.E. and C.S., University of Connecticut
  • M.S.C.S., University of Connecticut

Area of Interest: Communication Systems and Robotics

Kenneth Bell comes to OC from a 29 year career with C.S. Draper Laboratory and Lockheed Sanders/BAE Systems in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.  There he was involved with the full spectrum of electrical, computer, software, and systems engineering, from RF signals, to digital processing hardware, to software architecture, on small to very large systems.  He has also been involved with FIRST robotics programs for more than a decade. He enjoys working with students, helping them catch the excitement of making things that work!  He also looks forward to the blessings our well prepared students can bring to the church, particularly in regions where young Christian professionals and families are scarce.  He is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and its Computer Society.  He and his wife Sue have three children: Steven, David, and Sarah. Here he attends Britton Road Church of Christ.

Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering

Steve Maher, M.S.E.E

Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering

  • B.S.E.E., University of Kansas
  • M.S.E.E., University of Kansas

Area of Interest: Integrated Circuits

“I want to teach bright young Christians, especially those good at math and science, to become great (even world class) engineers.  I love the college environment.  I love working with young people.”  Mr. Maher studies integrated circuit design, debug and failure analysis, and engineering economics and management.  He is in the Electronic Device Failure Analysis Society and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.  He enjoys coaching youth basketball, traveling, reading, doing puzzles, and playing the tuba.  He really enjoys spending time with his wife Lisa and his three children: Marisa, Elizabeth, and Daniel.  Mr. Maher attends Memorial Road Church of Christ where he has served as a Bible class teacher and a Journeyland aide.

Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering

Pat Smith, M.S.

Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering

  • B.S., University of Oklahoma
  • M.S., Colorado State University

Area of Interest: Computer and Data Communications

Pat Smith earned the Cisco Certified Internetworking Expert in 1997.  He says his favorite memory so far at Oklahoma Christian is: “The moment one of my students shared the news that he had landed a dream job with Cisco Systems.  We had worked together to prepare him and he did great in the interviews.  He was so excited.”  Smith is the sponsor for Alpha Gamma Omega, and the Eagle Game Group.  He works at OC “to make a difference in the lives of young people.”  He enjoys long distance road cycling and table top games.  He and his wife Virginia have two children: Joshua and Katherine.  Smith attends Memorial Road Church of Christ where he is involved in mission work, adult seminars, and he teaches Bible class.

  • B.S.E., Texas A & M University
  • Ph.D., Drexel University

Area of Interest: Digital Signal Processing

“I work at OC because I want a Christian environment to work in, to live in, and have my children go to school in,” says Dr. Waldo.  Dr. Waldo is interested in biomedical signal processing. He is a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and is the sponsor for the IEEE Student Branch.  Dr. Waldo is also a sponsor for Alpha Gamma Omega.  He enjoys Bonsai, Spanish, guitar, and scuba diving.  His wife is Danielle and they have two children: Alex and Hayley.  He attends Edmond Church of Christ where he is a deacon, and the Spanish Bible class leader.
