Graduate School Preparation

Inorganic chemistry student conducting experiment

Many students who complete their BS work in chemistry or biochemistry continue their education into graduate school in pursuit of a master’s degree and/or doctorate. One of the fundamental requirements for graduate work is to have a strong foundation in the general field (chemistry, biochemistry, and/or physics). OC provides students with a high-quality science education, knowing that many of our students will go on to further, more technical studies. Listed below is a list of the graduate and professional schools our students have been accepted to after their graduation from OC.

As a science student here at OC, you will not only be taught the material, but be encouraged to think and explore on your own. Faculty and staff teach all classes and labs; we do not use graduate teaching assistants. Our low student-professor ratio creates an ideal learning environment in the classroom and in the laboratory.

Our new laboratory facilities at Vose Hall provide students with a modern, hands-on experience in the chemistry lab. In addition to the typical general chemistry and organic labs, we have an advanced lab and analytical lab for our upperclass chemistry students. Vose Hall also has a dedicated space in the advanced lab for research purposes. There are undergraduate research opportunities each summer at OC. The lab experience you have at OC will prepare you for research in graduate school.
