International Opportunities
Oklahoma Christian University recently celebrated the 30th anniversary of a student and faculty exchange relationship between Oklahoma Christian and Ibaraki Christian University in Ibaraki, Japan, located two hours northwest of Tokyo on the Pacific Coast.
More than 1,000 students from Oklahoma Christian and Ibaraki Christian have studied at their sister universities, and many more have made short-term visits. Numerous OC graduates have returned to Japan to serve in important roles at Ibaraki Christian, working as language teachers, as missionaries and as administrators.
The Pacific Rim program takes students to China, Japan, New Zealand, Australia and Hawaii. The full term of core courses is completed at universities in China, Japan and Australia. During their stay in Japan, students live with Japanese families. Extensive involvement in mission work also is offered.
Oklahoma Christian also sponsors the Vienna Studies Program. Students spend the fall semester in Europe, with visits to England, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, France, and additional countries depending on the yearly itinerary. A full course of study is offered in core curriculum courses. Participants have the option of engaging in mission work during the sojourn.
There also is a one-year exchange program between Oklahoma Christian and Ibaraki Christian and summer programs for academic credit in: Honduras, where engineering and pre-med students work with Predisan Medical Mission, gaining professional international experience building a village and working in medical clinics; Canada, where students attend the Shakespeare Festival in Stratford, Ontario; Central America, where students spend one month in intensive Spanish language and culture study; and Europe, where students have the opportunity to study and travel for six weeks.
