Admissions

Admission Requirements

Applicants should have a bachelors degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.  Those who have an undergraduate degree from a non-ABET accredited engineering program or in a closely related technical field, such as computer science or physics, will be considered for admission based on their college work and an appropriately proposed plan of study.

To apply to the Graduate School of Engineering, you must submit the following materials:

  • A completed online application (including a $25 application fee).
  • Official transcripts from the college or university that granted your bachelors degree and any other institutions attended before or after that time.  A cumulative GPA of 3.0 is required for admission; however, students with a GPA below a 3.0 may be admitted on probation.
  • Two letters of recommendation from professors, employers, or someone who supports you in your decision to earn your masters degree.
  • GRE test scores that were issued within the last five years.  These scores must indicate a 700 (old GRE) or 155 (new GRE) on the quantitative section and a 3.0 on the writing section.  This requirement can be waived if your cumulative undergraduate GPA is 3.25 or greater.

Undergraduate engineering students at Oklahoma Christian University may be accepted into the graduate program during their senior year as part of a five-year Bachelor of Science and Master of Science program, provided that all other admission requirements are met.  Students who are not seeking admission to the MSE degree program, but are instead registering for classes as a special student, visitor from another university, or only to audit courses, are not required to submit GRE scores or official transcripts.

Please mail all MSE application materials to Stephanie Baird, Program Director of the Graduate School of Engineering, Oklahoma Christian University, PO Box 11000, Oklahoma City, OK 73136-11000.

International Applicants

Along with the requirements listed above, international applicants must complete the following and submit these international Graduate School of Engineering admission requirements and forms to the Office of International Programs to be considered for admission:

  • An official English proficiency score (required for applicants whose first language is not English).  OC accepts the following English proficiency tests and minimum scores: a 550 pBT or 79 iBT on the TOEFL, a 6.5 on the IELTS, or a 750 on the TOEIC.  Applicants who are unable to submit a minimum English proficiency test score may gain English proficiency by studying in OC's ESL program, the Language and Culture Institute (LCI).  For more information about LCI, contact Lj Littlejohn, the LCI Coordinator, at lj.littlejohn@oc.edu.
  • Financial documentation as required by the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service and OC.  International students must complete the Graduate School of Engineering Financial Worksheet to be considered for admission.  The Financial Worksheet must be accompanied by official, original bank statements or letters, showing proof of funds available for one full year of support.  This is required by the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service and OC.  An Affidavit of Support is required in the case of third party funding of support.  A Dependent Data Form is used to declare any dependents an international student may have.
  • Official transcripts must be submitted from each college or university attended.  All transcripts and all official documents issued in a foreign language must be accompanied by an official English translation.  An official foreign credential evaluation (an original Comprehensive Course-by-Course Evaluation) must be submitted from World Education Services.  Requirements can be found here.  For more information regarding the preferred credential evaluation service, contact the Graduate School of Engineering or the Office of International Programs.
  • Visa status and SEVIS transfer release form (for international students applying from within the U.S.).  International students must provide a copy of their passport page, 1-94 card (front and back), visa page and copies of all I-20s to the Office of International Programs.  International students transferring from another U.S. educational institution must complete the SEVIS transfer release form.
  • All international students must read and sign a Graduate School of Engineering statement of understanding.  Read this form carefully to understand the expectations of an international student at OC.
  • International students and their dependents are required to have adequate medical insurance.  Upon enrollment, students will be placed on the university's health insurance policy at the student's expense.  International students must understand the immunization requirements and other health forms before enrolling in classes.
  • Once admitted, international students must maintain full-time enrollment (at least nine credit hours) as required by U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Services to maintain student status.

To begin the international admissions process, please contact any of the International Admissions Counselors or call the International Student Office at 405-425-5475 to schedule an appointment.  The Office of International Programs is located in Heritage Plaza at 13800 Benson Road, Suite 106, Edmond, OK.
