Service & Ministry

More than 1,100 undergraduate students (60 percent) are involved in ongoing service and ministry opportunities. Five hundred students, faculty and staff members participate in mission opportunities each year in more than 30 countries on six continents. Countries served include Australia, Austria, China, Croatia, Germany, Ghana, Honduras, Ireland, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Philippines, Rwanda, Switzerland and the United States.
OC students also reach out closer to home, helped place the university on the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll. Oklahoma Christian hosts physically and developmentally challenged children from Edmond each week for programs that give the children recreational opportunities and a chance to interact with OC students.
OC partners with Stanley Hupfeld Academy at Western Village to mentor students from that Oklahoma City elementary school. Western Village students have seen their test scores rise dramatically, almost doubling in some areas, helping the school move out of "at-risk" status. At the start of each school year, OC hosts "Kite Day," where Western Village students make a field trip to Oklahoma Christian for a fun day of flying kites and eating lunch with OC students.
Oklahoma Christian also serves the community through its annual Bible Lectureship and by hosting distinguished guests and speakers. President George H.W. Bush, President George W. Bush, and Bob Hope are among the many dignitaries who have visited Oklahoma Christian through the years.
